About the competition

Each year council holds the Light Up CH competition to encourage residents and businesses to adorn their premises with Christmas lights and decorations.

Hundreds of families drive around at Christmas time to view the displays at night. Let’s make our region shine during the festive season. Light up your home, rural property or business and capture the magical atmosphere of Christmas. Tinsel the trees or fence, put a Christmas tree in your front window, play Christmas carols or hang lights.

Entries are now open until 11.59 pm Sunday 12 December 2021.

    Best Residential Display
    There will be a winner and a runner up house awarded for each of our 13 communities: Arcadia Valley, Bauhinia, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Comet, Dingo, Duaringa, Emerald, The Sapphire Gemfields, Rolleston, Springsure and Tieri.
    Prizes: $100 for 1st and $50 for 2nd in each community.
    Best Rural Display

    There will be a first and second awarded for this category across the whole region.

    Prizes: $100 for 1st, $50 for 2nd.

    Best Business / Community Organisation Display

    There will be a first and second awarded for this category across the whole region.

    Prizes: $350 radio airtime voucher for 1st, $100 general voucher for 2nd and $50 for 3rd regionwide.

    The Beryl Callaghan Spirit Of Christmas Award

    Presented to the display that best demonstrates the spirit of the festive season.

    Prize: $200.

    People’s Choice Award

    Voting for this year’s 2021 People’s Choice Award winner will commence from 9.00 am Monday 13 December 2021.

    Prize: $200 gift card to The Emerald Plaza

  • Conditions of entry

    By entering you indicate that you have read and agree to the below conditions:

    • Only properties in the Central Highlands Regional Council area are eligible.
    • Completed entries must be submitted to Central Highlands Regional Council before 5.00 pm on the day the entry period closes.
    • By entering you consent to your address and/or lights photo to be published.
    • Lights must be on between 7.00 and 11.00 pm during the judging period.
    • Entries in the ‘Best business/ Community organisation display’ category must include a photograph (digital or printed) for judging.
    • It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure their display is safe. Competition sponsors accept no responsibility for costs or injuries which may occur as a result of entry.
    • Winners (as selected by the judging panel) will be announced on a date to be advised and on council’s website and Facebook page.
    • Prize money will be awarded as VISA gift cards.
  • Safety warning

    Central Highlands Regional Council urges participants to remain safety conscious while setting up and pulling down lights, as well as ensure that electrical equipment is in good working order.
