Council has received 12 nominations from Central Highlands residents interested in filling the vacancy left by Natalie Curtis’ recent resignation.
The position of councillor became vacant during the last year of the current council term, which means the council is required by law to fill the position through appointment rather than with a by-election.
The applicants are (in order of application):
- Michael McDonald
- Craig Hindmarsh
- Perry Dedes
- Bernardine Frawley
- Robert Donaldson
- Rodney Riethmuller
- Chris Whiteman
- Ruby Foster
- David Morris
- John Watkins
- Aaron Jurd
- Rachael Cruwys
Councillors will now review and consider the applications before voting to appoint a candidate at the general council meeting to be held in Blackwater on Wednesday, 24 May 2023. You can view a live broadcast of the council meetings here.
Mayor Kerry Hayes welcomed the nominations.
‘It’s been great seeing the community interest and conversations taking place over the last few weeks,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘We appreciate the commitment and dedication of all nominees to take on this vital role and serve our community.’
‘We look forward to welcoming a new councillor by the end of the month,’ he continued.
Following council’s appointment on Wednesday 24 May, the successful nominee will be sworn in and inducted, prior to their first official engagement as a councillor being the general council meeting on Wednesday 6 June 2023.
