Rockhampton artist Andrea Chapman has taken out the prestigious Central Highlands Regional Council Acquisitive Award.
The prize is part of the Central Highlands Annual Art Awards, which attracted over 80 entries from across the state this year.
Ms Chapman, who has been painting since the age of 15, said her winning oil painting It’s About Time ‘captured an intimate moment connecting two generations, blending the past with the future’.
‘The body language of the travellers juxtaposes the energy of youth against the wisdom of age, inviting the viewer to reminisce on their own relationships and conversations throughout life’s journey.
‘I am honoured to receive the acquisitive award. Congratulations to my fellow artists who were brave enough to submit their works and hang their hearts on the wall.’
Judge Catherine Boreham said it was a privilege to be a part of the awards.
‘These awards highlight the talents we have in our region and beyond,’ she said.
‘It has truly been a joy to closely observe every single artwork.’
The awards were presented at the exhibition opening at the Emerald Art Gallery on Saturday 3 August 2019.
Deputy Mayor Gail Godwin-Smith, who hosted the evening, said it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts, in all styles and mediums.
‘Well done to everyone who submitted an entry,’ she said.
‘The creativity, technical skills and variety was just wonderful. I was very impressed and encourage anyone who missed the opening night to drop into the gallery and take a look.’
The exhibition will remain open until Friday 6 September 2019.
