Emerald’s Australia Day celebrations will now be held at the McIndoe Park Function Centre.
The decision to move the event was made after Central Highlands Regional Council was advised of a potential public health issue at the Emerald Town Hall.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the move is a precautionary measure.
‘Due to the concern surrounding an outbreak of gastroenteritis following an event at the Emerald Town Hall last week, we have made a decision to move the Australia Day celebrations.
‘This is in no way meant to be alarmist, it’s just a sensible decision so we can be sure the community can confidently attend and enjoy the activities.’
The event will begin with a community breakfast at 7.00 am at McIndoe Park Function Centre, Opal Street, Emerald.
