Australian cricketer Alex Blackwell will visit the Central Highlands as guest speaker at Emerald’s Epic Street Party on 22 March 2018, when the Queen’s Baton Relay travels through town.
A change agent and disruptor of Australian sport, Blackwell has played more matches for Australia than any other female cricketer in history and led teams she captained to the top of the ranks.
She was team captain in the Australian Women’s Team in the run-up to the World Twenty20 in 2010 and one of only two players to feature in ten consecutive wins of the Lend Lease New South Wales Breakers.
In 2016, she captained the Sydney Thunder to victory in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League.
Blackwell has combined elite sports with academic excellence. A former medical student, she decided to pursue cricket over a career in medicine. Drawing from her experience, she inspires others to reach success through innovation, adaptability, taking calculated risks and leadership.
In 2012, Blackwell came out as a gay athlete and is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion within sport.
Blackwell will be speaking at the Emerald Epic Street Party. The event starts at 4.00 pm on 22 March 2018 at Anakie Street, Emerald.
