People across the Central Highlands were recognised for their contributions to the community with the presentation of the Australia Day Awards across the region last Friday.
Mayor Kerry Hayes led the awards ceremony at the Emerald celebration and said the awards are an opportunity to thank those who make the Central Highlands community a better place and inspire others with their actions.
‘Each and every award winner and nominee has devoted their time and effort to the community and the Central Highlands is richer for their dedication and work.
‘The awards show that, be it in sports, the arts, or as member of one of the many clubs and events, opportunities to get involved are plentiful in the region.
‘We also know there are many more people in our community who are leaders and role models and, while they may not like the limelight, this is a great opportunity to say thank you.’
There were six award categories including, Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Senior Sportsperson/ Administrator of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year and a Cultural Award.
