Opposition leader Bill Shorten visited Emerald yesterday as part of his week-long ‘listening tour’ in northern and central Queensland.
Central Highlands Regional Council’s councillors, senior management staff and local stakeholders had the opportunity to share their concerns and ideas for the future of the region during a round-table discussion with the MP and his team.
Some of the topics discussed included the downturn in the resources industry, the drive-in drive-out workforce, cattle export opportunities, the proposed inland port at Yamala, NBN coverage, Adani and the strength of the region’s agricultural sector.
Mr Shorten also visited the Emerald Saleyards during his time in the region and held a local forum on jobs creation.
