A fire permit has been issued to the contractors conducting flood mitigation work in the Nogoa River downstream of the Vince Lester Bridge to burn the fallen timber.
The burn will commence on Friday 20 January 2017 and may continue for seven days.
The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service has advised that the heat wave conditions will not contribute to any adverse risk with the burn, however the consideration is for potential smoke hazard.
Anyone with respiratory issues is advised to keep doors and windows closed. Care should be taken when driving in the vicinity due to potential decreased visibility.
Businesses in the area have been contacted directly and appropriate warning signage will be erected.
Any comments or concerns should be directed to council in the first instance on 1300 242 686.
