Central Highlands Regional Council will be sharing its Capella office with banking service provider The Capricornian from August.
Capella Community Reference Group members brought their concerns to council when their local National Australia Bank branch announced its closure for August 2021.
A similar agreement had been reached in council’s Springsure office in February 2019.
‘The community banking model co-locating in council’s Springsure office has been a beneficial business model for both council and the bank,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘There’s a shared interest in ensuring our communities have access to over-the-counter banking services when larger banks have withdrawn their local services.’
‘For our Capella community, this is a fantastic outcome.’
Council has offered the initial 12-month licence term rent-free to allow The Capricornian time to establish its branch and customer base in the Capella community.
