Council is pleased to announce the receipt of $28.2 million in funding from the Queensland State Government Resources Community Infrastructure Fund.
In one of the largest funding allocations ever received by council it will be spread across a range of vital community projects aimed at enhancing the overall well-being and recreational opportunities for residents throughout the region.
The funding will be distributed across key initiatives, including upgrades to our regional entertainment venues, airport works, aquatic centre enhancements, and other critical community infrastructure projects which regional councils would otherwise struggle to deliver.
Mayor Kerry Hayes expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for this much needed financial support from the Queensland State Government.
‘We have been the strong advocates for a better share of the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and this announcement recognises the need for government investment that improves the liveability of our communities and attracts more people to take the opportunities that Central Highlands offers,’ he said.
‘This funding is a game-changer. It takes the financial pressure off council and gives us all confidence for our future in the Bowen Basin.
‘The projects we submitted improve our service and recreational capacity and the economic activity generated will be welcome across our region,’ he continued.
The breakdown of the funding allocation is as follows:
Regional entertainment venues upgrades | Major upgrades to audio/visual and production equipment in Blackwater Civic Centre, Springsure’s Bauhinia Hall, Emerald Town Hall and Capella Cultural Centres, and a replacement of the air conditioning system in Capella Cultural Centre. | $5.5 million |
Bridgeman Park clubhouse | Replacement and upgrade of amenities block and upgrades to car park. | $1.5 million |
Springsure Aquatic Centre 17m program pool | A new heated 17m program pool with disabled entry and covers to increase opportunities for extended learning to swim and health-related programs. | $5 million |
Emerald Regional Botanic Gardens walking trails | New and renovated garden areas, pathways, trails, pedestrian bridge, nursery and visitor centre. | $7 million |
Emerald Airport Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) apron works | New high-stretch taxiway and pavement built for the RFDS aircraft. | $6 million |
McIndoe Park Sports Complex | Finalisation of the McIndoe Park Master Plan including a new third field, announcer’s box and car park upgrades. | $3.19 million |
Council will now enter the planning phase for these projects, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that the funds are utilised effectively and that the projects align with the needs and aspirations of the community.
