Each May, the Central Highlands marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month to raise community awareness of the impacts of domestic and family violence.
In support of the annual state-wide campaign, council, the Queensland Police Service and CentacareCQ are once again joining forces to host a number of community events.
‘It’s up to each and every one of us to come together and take action to show domestic family violence is not acceptable – not now, not ever,’ Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes said.
A free community breakfast, including a special talk from survivor Simone O’Brien, will be held at the Emerald Town Hall Supper Room on 18 May 2017 from 7.30 am to 9.00 am.
Residents are also invited to join a March Against Violence in Our Community on 31 May 2017. The march will start at 10.00 am at the Emerald Town Hall and end with a morning tea in the CentacareCQ car park on Egerton Street.
Cr Hayes reminded residents that confidential advice and support was available by phoning the DVConnect Womensline on 1800 811 811 or Mensline on 1800 600 636 or through local services such as Centacare.
To RSVP to the community breakfast please call 1300 523 985 by 15 May 2017.
