The Central Highlands’ region remains on alert for a severe weather event during this evening.
Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes reiterated his earlier message to be prepared.
‘The tropical low system that formed from ex TC Debbie has been very slow moving and has tracked further to the east than was anticipated.
‘The highest rainfall during the day today has been in the Comet area and to the west on the ranges.
‘The latest update I have from the Bureau of Meteorology is that this region is still under a severe weather alert for heavy rain and strong winds overnight.
‘The local disaster coordination centre will be in operation during the night to deal with any situation, so residents can be reassured that help is at hand if needed.
‘There is no threat of flooding in the Emerald township, but some residents in direct threat of flooding in the Gemfields have been door knocked to make sure they are aware of what’s happening.
‘The message is still the same: make adequate preparations and definitely don’t drive through flooded roads.
