Eight Central Highlands residents became Australian citizens after taking their pledge with Mayor Kerry Hayes at the Emerald Town Hall on Tuesday.
The group originated from the Philippines and South Africa, with the youngest new citizens only seven years old.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said every citizenship ceremony is a unique and important occasion and the Central Highlands welcome each and every one as full citizens.
‘Our new citizens bring valued diversity in skills, culture and ideas to our region,’ he said.
‘We proudly sang the national anthem together and there certainly were strong singers in the group.
‘I sincerely congratulate our new citizens and wish them a healthy, happy and successful future in Australia.’
