Gutters turned from necessity to nightmare over a wet weekend in the Central Highlands. The State Emergency Service (SES) received several callouts to save homes from water damage that could have been avoided if homeowners followed these simple tips:
- Regularly check the condition of your home’s roof and repair loose tiles, eaves, screws and cracked or broken guttering or flashing.
- Regularly clean gutters and downpipes so water can drain away instead of overflowing into ceilings and the home interior.
- Trim trees and overhanging branches close to your home.
By following these tips, you will be well prepared for wet weather events, save money in repairs and prevent unnecessary damage to valuables.
This also helps the SES volunteers help the community by not tying up resources on situations that can easily be avoided.
If you require help with these tasks, local businesses provide excellent professional service.
