Community groups across the region have been awarded $143,156.24 in Central Highlands Regional Council’s second community grants round in 2019.
The 19 successful applicants were announced in the general council meeting on 8 October 2019.
Deputy Mayor Cr Gail Godwin-Smith said it was a tough choice for the panel.
‘We received 27 applications for the second community grant round this year,’ Cr Godwin-Smith said.
‘As an assessment panel member, it was an interesting round to assess with so many high-quality applications. Congratulations to all who were successful.
‘Council offers two rounds of community grants each calendar year and I encourage those who missed out this round to apply for round one of next year’s community grants program.
‘This round closes on 28 February 2020 at 5pm.’
The Rolleston Rag Inc received one of eight community assistance grants to help bring the Festival of Small Halls’ tour to the Central Highlands.
Rolleston community member Trina Patterson, who assisted The Rolleston Rag Inc with their campaign, welcomed the funding.
‘We’re very grateful to council for supporting this community event in Rolleston,’ Mrs Patterson said.
‘We applied for $2,200 from council to reduce the entry fee for adults to the Festival and make it free for primary school students.
‘With the drought, times are tough. This Festival will benefit us by allowing us to get together and share an evening as a community.’
Dingo Tennis Club received a $5,000 grant for the installation of an insulated roof at its clubhouse.
Treasurer Maxine Cragg said the grant would make a big difference for the club.
‘At the moment, the clubhouse is an old shed with a tin roof,’ Ms Cragg said.
‘Last year, we closed the clubhouse in for security and it really reduced the airflow in there, so we’re installing an insulated roof for the comfort of our players.
‘We don’t really want to install air conditioning at this point, so the ceiling should hopefully make a big difference.’
