With the 2024-2028 council term now underway, Central Highlands Regional Council will begin its search for a new chief executive officer (CEO).
Councillors discussed the recruitment process at this week’s general council meeting, electing to engage an external agency to assist.
A panel will also be appointed to oversee the process, consisting of the mayor, deputy mayor, and other relevant members. This panel will work together to determine the preferred candidate(s) on behalf of council.
The decision illustrates council’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and thorough recruitment process in accordance with Section 194 of the Local Government Act 2009.
Mayor Janice Moriarty said the organisation’s new leader would help the council to deliver its corporate plan and work with staff to meet the current and future needs of the Central Highlands.
‘We are dedicated to finding a CEO who has the ability, experience, knowledge, passion and skills to take on the responsibilities of this vital role,’ she said.
‘It is a challenging job, but also one that is hugely rewarding. We look forward to getting the recruitment process started.’
In the interim, Ross Higgins will continue to act in the role. He has been acting in the position since the resignation of former CEO Sharon Houlihan in December 2023.
