14 Central Highlands residents became Australian citizens after taking their pledge with Mayor Kerry Hayes on Tuesday July 4 in the Emerald Council Chambers.
The conferees attended from the Philippines, Korea, South Africa, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Canada.
‘Citizenship ceremonies are one of council’s most special events, and it is a privilege to be a part of them,’ said Mayor Hayes.
’Our ceremonies are a reminder that cultural diversity is one of the Central Highlands greatest assets and we become stronger because of it,’ he continued.
‘I sincerely congratulate them for their commitment, persistence, and desire to be officially recognised as an Australian.’
