Emerald is putting the pedal to the metal when it comes to cycling, with the state government approving funding for four local projects.
The Central Highlands Regional Council secured almost $947 000 under the Department of Transport and Main Road’s 2017-18 Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.
The program aims to accelerate the delivery of cycling networks and encourage more cycling across the state.
‘To get more people cycling more often, cycling needs to be accessible and safe, with facilities that encourage new riders of all abilities and all walks of life,’ Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes said.
‘I’m positive this new and improved cycling infrastructure will be used by many of our residents. Healthy active lifestyles are so important in our communities, and we thank the Queensland Government for recognising and supporting this.’
The projects will be jointly funded by council.
