Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes has handed over a $10,000 cheque to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section).
The RFDS Executive Manager Fundraising, Robert Needham was visiting the region and took time out of his schedule to receive the donation in person at Emerald.
Mr Needham thanked the councillors and said ‘every cent counts’.
‘We gratefully receive donations from organisations as large as a council right through to mums and dads,’ he said.
‘The RFDS needs to raise $11 million every year, just in Queensland, to provide its services to people living in rural and remote areas of Australia.
‘In the last twelve months the RFDS has landed in the Central Highlands region more than 500 times to help a local in need.’
The mayor praised the Service adding that he had no doubt how many people in the room that day knew of someone that perhaps owed their lives to the RFDS.
‘It gives me great pleasure to make this donation to such a worthy cause; one that all Australians are immensely proud of.’
