Basketballers and netballers rejoice!
The indoor courts at the Emerald PCYC are about to get a much-needed facelift thanks to council’s annual capital works program.
Emerald PCYC branch manager Sergeant Julia Henderson said the team are super excited about the upgrade.
‘The flooring was last refurbished in 2013, and with the flood damage we’ve received since then, we are so grateful,’ she said.
Specialist contractors will travel to Emerald later this month to bring the courts back to their original glory, sanding the timber back and placing a fresh sealant on top. All original sporting lines will also be redrawn, with the exciting addition of futsal lines to the courts.
‘From netball and basketball to senior’s fitness and kids’ classes, we are excited to see the community make the most of the upgraded floors in the coming months,’ said Acting General Manager Communities Kirstin Byrne.
‘Every year our capital works program helps to deliver vital upgrades and new projects to our communities, from big to small.’
The PCYC courts will be closed between 27 September and 16 October 2021 while contractors resurface the floor. All other facilities will function as usual during this time.
The Emerald Basketball Association has also received a grant from the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund to continue developing the facility.
