Local artist Andrea Ferris is encouraging anyone with a flair for the creative to follow in her footsteps and enter the 2017 Central Highlands Regional Council Emerald Art Awards.
Last year, she was thrilled to take first place in the ‘Works on paper’ category for her piece Cockatoo in the Banksia.
‘The 2016 Art Awards was the first art competition I’ve entered since taking up drawing only three years ago.
‘I will admit that I was quite surprised and very happy to win an award and it was a great thrill to see my drawings in gallery alongside so many pieces by extremely talented artists,’ she said.
‘The prize money was a bonus and I treated myself to new barbecue and a cupboard full of art supplies!’
Ferris said local art awards are a great opportunity for local artists and photographers to showcase the pieces that they’ve spent many long hours crafting.
Categories are:
- Easel-based works (any medium).
- Works on paper (no photography or computer art).
- Three dimensional works.
- Photography and digital art.
All entries will be displayed in an exhibition at the Emerald Art Gallery from 5 July 2017 to 18 August 2017.
Entries close on Saturday 1 July 2017.
