Regardless of whether you train top level athletes or are a ‘weekend warrior’ yourself – or fall somewhere in between – planning and preparation should be part of every sportsperson’s training and competition regime.
One of the free workshops at the upcoming Central Highlands Sports Forum in Emerald will provide coaches, athletes, parents and teachers with tips and strategies to integrate these important elements into pre-season, in-season and post season training programs.
The six hour workshop, which includes a blend of theory and practical work in a gym and on-field, is being presented by Fiteducation director Chris Weier, a popular presenter at previous forums.
A top level triathlete and former teacher, Chris has spent more than a decade training people of all ages and backgrounds.
‘The old adage “failing to plan is planning to fail” is just as relevant to training as it is to anything else,’ Weier said.
‘And if we continue to do what we always do, we will get what we always got.
‘This workshop will look at how to get the most out your athletes (or yourself), plus when and what type of training you should be doing before, during and after your season.’
Topics covered will include improving strength, power, speed, agility and endurance, as well as conditioning your athletes and recovery.
‘This is a practical workshop, with coaches are encouraged to bring along some of their athletes to work with,’ Weier said.
The workshop is one of seven workshops on offer at the forum, which this year has been expanded to include the Sport and Recreation Conference being held at just a handful of locations across the state. The conference is being delivered by the Queensland Government, in partnership with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games’ (GC2018) Legacy Program and the Central Highlands Regional Council.
Other workshops include sessions to help improve the governance of your organisation, plus basic and advanced strapping.
The Athlete Management workshop will be held on Saturday 25 February 2017 at the McIndoe Park Function Centre in Emerald starting at 11.45 pm.
Register online before Friday 17 February 2017.
