The extremely prolonged hot weather is causing a number of issues with pavement failure on state government roads within the region.
Pavement failure includes things like lifting, shoving and depressions in the asphalt.
Roads affected include: the Capricorn Highway west of Emerald, the Gregory Highway about 25 km north of Emerald, Yan Yan Road, the Carnarvon Highway in many locations and the Dawson Highway between Rolleston and Springsure.
Council’s engineers have remarked that the issues are occurring in roads that have never failed in the past.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads have been notified of the problems and council will engage contractors to help fix the problems.
In the meantime, the key message is to drive carefully and obey any warning signs and decreased speed limits.
