Recent heavy rain has brought welcome relief to Capella’s water storage dams, helped by a harvesting effort by Central Highlands Regional Council’s water operations and workshop teams.
Working around the clock, operators have pumped an additional 250 megalitres into Dam 2. This has raised the combined dam volume to 43 per cent capacity, up from 18 per cent last month.
Central Highlands Mayor Kerry Hayes said despite these efforts, Level 2 water restrictions will remain in place for now and be re-evaluated on completion of harvesting.
‘Before lifting restrictions we must ensure we have sufficient supply in accordance with the Water Supply Safety and Reliability Act (2008).
‘I thank our staff for their fantastic harvesting efforts, and the residents of Capella for their patience,’ said Mayor Hayes.
