Central Highlands Regional Council is hosting a community men’s barbeque to open discussions around indigenous community development.
The event is to be held on 7 June 2018 at Rotary Park in Blackwater.
Community elder and domestic violence White Ribbon Ambassador Uncle Randal Powder will be leading the discussion.
The traditional round of men’s business will focus on topics like community issues, unemployment, health and opportunities.
‘What I see as important is that we all work together like we used to do years ago, not just at NAIDOC or when something goes wrong,’ Mr Powder said.
‘Our kids used to get along very well with each other, now I hear about them fighting at school with each other.’
Mr Powder is hoping the meeting will reinforce the importance of the indigenous community working together and explore future opportunities.
Men of all ages are invited to attend the discussion.
Registrations are required for catering purposes. Please contact council’s Community Development Officer Indigenous Patrice Harald on 4980 5502 to register.
