Nearly a year after the edge of Tropical Cyclone Debbie wreaked havoc throughout the Central Highlands region, recovery road works are about to get underway.
Central Highlands Regional Council approved a $1.084 million tender for NDRRA (National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements) funded work on nine local roads.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the funding is most welcome and crucial for regional councils.
‘The NDRRA program is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments and is financial assistance made available to council for the restoration or replacement of eligible essential public assets following a disaster event.
‘There is a robust application process followed by a tender process, which is why it takes some time for the work to get started,’ the mayor said.
Roads on which works will be undertaken include: Krongie Road, Milroy Downs Road, Minerva Hills Road, Range Baranga Road, Tolmies Road, Tolmies Subdivision Road, Turkey Creek Road, Wyntoon Road and Yackman Road.
The road works vary, but include grading, stone pitching repair, gravel re-sheeting, pothole patching, and bitumen seal resurfacing.
The contractor is expected to commence next month and be completed by the end of March 2018. Residents and road users may expect some interruption to traffic movements during this time.
