Local business owners and developers can now navigate the planning process with additional support and guidance, thanks to council’s newly appointed compliance officer.
After a comprehensive recruitment campaign, Debra Manendis stepped into the vacant role last month, bringing with her 10 years of experience.
Ms Manendis said she was looking forward to working with the Central Highlands’ business community to improve development compliance across the region.
‘Council has an important role to play in ensuring all development complies with the relevant approval conditions and the provisions of our planning scheme,’ she said.
‘A big part of this is helping business owners to understand their obligations, and providing them with useful advice and direction. Planning never gets easier, so getting things right from the start is always the best way to avoid issues and potential penalties further down the track.’
Ms Manendis will be following up outstanding compliance matters, responding to enquiries and undertaking routine investigations to check relevant development permits.
However, she encouraged anyone with questions, concerns or plans for a new business to get in touch.
To contact the compliance officer call 1300 242 686 or drop into the Emerald council office.
