Lifeguarding Services Australia (LSA) will take over the management of the Emerald Aquatic Centre, with the facility re-opening for the new season on 15 August 2024.
Central Highlands Regional Council’s General Manager Communities John McDougall said the transition marks a new chapter for the popular recreation centre.
‘Outgoing operator Bobtrac have given our community 22 years of wonderful service, which we sincerely thank them for,’ he said.
‘We hope to continue this legacy under the new management of LSA, who have been operating for over 26 years across Australia.
‘LSA were selected for the contract after a thorough tender process. They are a highly regarded aquatic industry specialist management group, dedicated to working with regional and remote local government authorities, to safely and effectively operate council-owned aquatic assets.
‘They are also dedicated to embedding themselves in the community through training and employing locals.’
LSA CEO Stan Wall said they were excited to work with local swim clubs and schools to get as many people as possible swimming and enjoying the water this season.
‘Aquatics, sport and recreation in general is a way of life for every Australian, and I believe that everyone should have access to safe and compliant venues regardless of their ability, or background,’ he said.
Mr McDougall said LSA will continue to run the same programs and services as usual at the Emerald Aquatic Centre, and patrons are not required to do anything.
‘LSA and council will honour current operating hours and ensure fees and charges remain affordable to the community,’ he said.
Council has also been busy completing important maintenance work during the centre’s closure, including renovating the amenities, recoating the Splashpad base, upgrading the 25-metre pool roof structure, and repairs to the slides.
