Local sport and recreation clubs will take the new Springsure Multipurpose Centre for a test drive this weekend, as part of the facility’s official opening.
The multi-club centre is located at the Springsure Showgrounds and includes two change rooms, a referee room, storage areas, a canteen and kitchen, commentary box, solar battery storage and a function room with vinyl flooring.
To celebrate the exciting new clubhouse, a smorgasbord of sport matches, demonstrations and entertainment will be held on Saturday 29 July 2017.
‘This centre provides a safe, modern, weather protected, disability accessible facility for players, volunteers and spectators of a multitude of sports and recreation activities,’ Mayor Cr Kerry Hayes said.
‘We hope it will encourage more residents to get active and live a healthy lifestyle, support existing clubs, attract new ones and also bring bigger regional and state events to the area.’
The project was identified as a priority in council’s Open Space and Recreation Plan, as well as the Springsure Showgrounds Masterplan.
It was jointly funded by council and the state government’s Get in the Game initiative.
‘This project has largely been driven by the community, particularly the Springsure Showgrounds Working Committee and the Springsure Community Reference Group,’ Cr Hayes said.
‘I thank everyone involved for their commitment and enthusiasm, and I look forward to seeing the clubhouse put to good use over coming years.’
The official opening ceremony will take place at 4.00 pm.
