The long-awaited river excavation flood mitigation work on the Nogoa River near Emerald is on track and progressing well.
Central Highlands Regional Council’s General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Gerhard Joubert said work on sites 10 and 11 downstream at Codenwarra are due for completion in the new year, while sites 2 and 3 adjacent to the Vince Lester Bridge are complete.
‘An area on the eastern side of the river opposite the botanic gardens has had some vegetation and soil removed and an ‘island’ downstream towards the golf course has had vegetation removed and has been lowered by about two metres.
‘We’ve been pleased with how both projects went and thank people for their understanding while the walking track was disrupted through the gardens,’ Mr Joubert said.
