The Central Highlands Regional Council will host an inaugural Sports Awards Dinner in Emerald next month as part of the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation Conference.
The awards will recognise individuals, clubs and teams that demonstrated excellent performance in and commitment to their respective sport in 2016.
‘It was a fantastic year for many of our local sporting clubs and players,’ Cr Alan McIndoe said.
‘These awards are a wonderful opportunity to give them a well-deserved shout out and acknowledge their hard work and dedication. From personal and team achievements to volunteers who are the backbones of their clubs – we want to hear about it.’
Nominations are now open for all categories until 5.00 pm on 15 February 2017.
The categories are:
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Club of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Event of the Year
Winners will be announced at the dinner, which will be held from 6.30 pm on Friday 24 February 2017 at the Maraboon Tavern.
Cr McIndoe encouraged residents to get in and get their tickets early, with limited spots available.
‘This is going to be a night not to missed,’ he said.
‘Not only will we be celebrating our local heroes both on and off the field, attendees will also get to hear from one of the most passionate and experienced sports performance experts in the world – Wayne Goldsmith.’
Wayne has worked with numerous players, coaches and teams in the NRL, Super Leagues and AFL, as well as Tennis Australia, Racing Victoria, The Wallabies, Triathlon Australia, Swimming Australia, Diving Australia, the All Blacks and USA Swimming.
