More than 30 passionate community members, along with the Mayor and Councillors, took part in the 2016 Regional Community Summit in Springsure on 14 May.
Armed with a positive attitude and plenty of ideas, delegates from the region’s thirteen Community Reference Groups converged at the Bauhinia Memorial Hall to celebrate their achievements and set priorities for the future.
The event, hosted by the Springsure 2022 Community Reference Group and the Central Highlands Regional Council, marked another key milestone in the Central Highlands 2022 Community Plan, which commenced in July 2012.
‘It was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the valuable contributions being made by Community Reference Group members and give them the opportunity to learn more about what is happening in towns and communities across the region,’ Manager Community Planning and Engagement Janice Moriarty said.
‘The summit theme was ‘Placemaking’ and the guest speaker David Engwicht from Creative Communities International shared his thought-provoking secrets for creating vibrant public spaces.
‘The day included the ‘Endless Opportunities’ Activity which allowed participants to prioritise what they value about living in the region and nominate projects ideas.’
Some of the projects identified by participants on the day were improved energy efficiency, telecommunications, more youth activities and improved water security.
Most importantly, the summit gave CRG members the opportunity to meet the Mayor and Councillors and speak with them about their ideas for the future and what is needed in their communities.
Mrs Moriarty congratulated all delegates on another successful summit, which built on the progress made at last year’s inaugural event. She also thanked the Springsure Gymnastics Club for performing at the end of the day.
