Isaac and Central Highlands are joining forces to lobby for better affordable housing in the Bowen Basin.
Isaac Affordable Housing Trust (IAHT) and the Central Highlands (QLD) Housing Company Limited (CHQHC) met in Moranbah this week.
Isaac Regional Council (IRC) Mayor and IAHT Chair Anne Baker said they identified common problems across both regions.
“It was a very productive meeting which resulted in a commitment from both housing companies to collaborate,” Mayor Baker said.
“This is a positive step towards joint lobbying the State Government for better affordable housing.”
Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) Mayor and CHQHC Chair Kerry Hayes said a dual position paper will be developed to outline the challenges in the market.
“The paper will propose the way forward for affordable housing in both regions,” Mayor Hayes said.
“Mayor Anne Baker and I will present the paper to the State Government in the new year.
“I look forward to working closely with Isaac for the best outcome for our communities.”
IAHT is a housing initiative supported by Isaac Regional Council, BHP Mitsubishi Alliance and Rio Tinto.
The Central Highlands (QLD) Housing Company Limited is a not-for-profit organisation supported by the Central Highlands Regional council to manage affordable housing opportunities in the region.
