Council is excited to announce former professional rugby league footballer Sam Thaiday will be speaking at the 2023 Sport and Active Recreation Awards Night on 25 February 2023.
‘We are stoked to have Sam as a guest speaker at our upcoming awards night. He has a tremendous personality, and we are lucky to have him join us to celebrate our people and region,’ General Manager Communities John McDougall said.
Growing up in Townsville, Sam played rugby league from an early age and was a North QLD Cowboys fan. His own career took off when he signed with the Brisbane Broncos in 2003.
Sam went on to represent his state and country, won a premiership with the Broncos and won personal accolades, such as the Dally M award for the best second rower.
Sam has been awarded the Ken Stephen Medal for his outstanding commitment to a wide range of community and charity activities.
‘What I really appreciate about Sam, is his involvement in the community,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.
‘As great as Sam was on the field, it’s his charisma that really shines. Having that energy at our event is something all in attendance can look forward to,’ he said.
The Sports and Active Recreation Awards Night is on 25 February 2023. Don’t miss your chance to hear from Sam, tickets are on sale now.
