Several footpaths and ramps across Emerald have recently undergone significant upgrades, improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians in key areas.
The upgrades include:
- Emerald Christian College (ECC): The footpath outside ECC has been redesigned to form a T-intersection, replacing the previous kinked path. This improvement reduces the risk of trips, slips, and falls for pedestrians passing by the school.
- Morton Park: The pathway along Brief Street has been realigned and relocated out of the grass drain, connecting it to the pedestrian culvert crossing. The new pathway accommodates mobility scooters and wider pedestrian traffic, providing better access to this popular park.
- Kerb ramp – Gregory Highway: A new kerb ramp has been constructed along Gregory Highway at Mayfair Drive, allowing pedestrians to cross safely without needing to navigate down to the Mayfair Tavern roundabout.
- Kerb ramp – Scant Street: A kerb ramp has been added along Hospital Road across Scant Street, enabling all users to cross safely without stepping over the kerb and island.
These improvements are part of council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and ensuring safer, more accessible routes for residents.
‘Whether it’s improving access to local parks, ensuring safe routes to school, or making crossings easier for those with prams or mobility devices, these upgrades are a reflection of council’s commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all residents,’ General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan said.
Further upgrades are planned across the region with approximately $165,000 to be spent on pathways under council’s 2024-2025 budget.
