The Central Highlands copped a battering this week with several storms dropping a combined 50 to 100ml of rain across the region. The turbulent weather is forecast to continue until mid-next week.
Mayor Kerry Hayes wants residents to remain vigilant and to be more considerate when driving in the wet.
‘When a storm arrives it’s best to stay indoors or undercover and away from windows, trees and power lines.
‘Speeding through water creates waves that flood businesses and property. Show a bit of care and respect for others and slow down if there’s water on the road.’
Council hosts an Emergency Management Dashboard that has all the information you need for when wild weather strikes.
The dashboard pulls real time data from Queensland’s major infrastructure, utility and emergency service providers to display the latest road conditions, emergency news, power outages, fire incidents and weather warnings.
When it’s safe to get out and clean up, residents can bring residential greenwaste to Emerald Transfer Station in a light vehicle or small trailer for free. Large trailer-loads must be taken to Lochlees Landfill (12km East of Emerald) which is free of charge for residential waste.
