Catching a flight? Add ten minutes to your drive to the airport.
Emerald Airport Manager David Voss said passengers are still being caught short because they forget there might be a hold-up for road works.
‘The intersection upgrade work is continuing for another three weeks or so and delays up to 10 minutes are possible, so it’s essential that people remember to add that bit of extra time to their trip,’ he said.
‘On Saturday 4 February 2017 the airport intersection will close at 12.30 pm until 10.30 am Sunday 5 February 2017 for excavation and resurfacing work.
The airport will still be accessible via a temporary entrance but, because the work is being done outside operational times, there should be little interruption for airport users. The Gregory Highway will be open with traffic control in place and short delays can be expected.
‘Another change that people should be aware of is that there is now a stop sign on both sides of the railway line, which is a safety initiative that will benefit the community,’ Mr Voss concluded.
