Asphalt surfacing will take place on Opal Street on Wednesday 19 August as part of safety upgrades around the Emerald Botanic Gardens entrance.
The lane heading south on Opal Street from the Cliff/New/Opal Street intersection will be closed for about two hours from 9.30 am Wednesday morning while works are carried out.
South-bound traffic will be detoured via New and Roberts Streets while the lane is closed.
Once complete, the improvements will include widening of Opal Street and the introduction of an auxiliary turning lane to the southbound lane on Opal Street for road users wishing to enter the botanic garden, improving safety to the entrance road to the gardens.
The works are part of a suite of upgrades being carried out as council reconstructs the entrance road into the botanic gardens.
An auxiliary turning lane, allowing a right turn into the botanic gardens, will be added to the northbound lane on Opal Street when further asphalt and line marking works are carried out in September. Notification will be provided closer to the date. Speed restrictions of 40km/h will be in place until this work is complete.
