Central Highlands Regional Council is urging residents to think twice about what they flush down the toilet.
Infrastructure and Utilities General Manager Gerhard Joubert said the community must stop flushing toilet paper alternatives such as wipes, fabric, tissues and paper towels.
‘Putting the wrong thing down the toilet causes blockages and breakdowns in our sewerage network,’ he said.
‘This can lead to unnecessary expense, reduced treatment efficiency and environmental problems.
‘While we understand toilet paper is a hot commodity at the moment, this is no excuse. Please remember that only the three Ps – pee, poo and toilet paper – should be sent down the loo.
‘Even products that are labelled ‘flushable’ can cause blockages, so please think twice before you flush.’
Items that should NEVER be flushed:
- Wet wipes
- Paper towels
- Tissues
- Serviettes
- Fabric
- Cotton balls
- Sanitary items
