Residents in Tieri may be worried about the brown colour of their water supply.
People can be reassured that the water has been tested and is completely safe to drink and use and complies with drinking water guidelines.
The discolouration is due to manganese in the water. Normally, the raw water is treated with chlorine at the water treatment plant, which removes the manganese, but this system has had a break down and cannot be fixed for at least a week until a specialist technician can conduct a service.
UPDATE – 3.40 pm Friday 29 September 2017 – the water utilities team will conduct mains flushing of the water pipes at Tieri this evening to try to improve the water quality. The water is safe to consume, however care should be taken if washing white items as discolouration of fabric might occur.
