Blackwater came alive last weekend as nearly 400 youth from the Central Highlands region gathered for Youth Fest 2024, a day dedicated to celebrating young people.
This year’s festival was supported by 27 generous sponsors, making it an unforgettable celebration of youth culture and community spirit.
The event, held at the May Day Grounds on Saturday 14 September, provided a fun, safe, and worry-free environment for youth aged 12 to 18 years.
Australian Idol 2024 finalists Denvah and Trent Richardson headlined the event, alongside performances by local artists Chris Bax Band, MATH and Gypsi Brunker.
Youth enjoyed a range of activities, from thrilling rides like the Drop Zone and the Sizzler to camel rides and dodgem cars, ensuring there was something for everyone. A variety of food stalls provided a delicious array of options, keeping the crowd well-fed and energised.
Buses provided easy access to the event, with free services across the Central Highlands, ensuring no one missed out on the festivities.
The success of Youth Fest can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the youth committee, a passionate group of 17 young leaders who inspired the events vision and execution. Their creativity and commitment to engaging their peers truly shone throughout the festival.
Mayor Janice Moriarty commented on the success of the event:
‘Our youth are the future of this region, and events like Youth Fest show just how vibrant and engaged they are.
‘The event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our community. From volunteers to local businesses, everyone played a part in making Youth Fest a success.
‘Events like Youth Fest highlight the importance of community and the positive impact we can have when we work together,’ said Mayor Moriarty.
Feedback from local youth has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already excited for next years event to be held in Capella. Follow CHRC Youth on Facebook to keep up with events for young people in the region.
