More than 200 student leaders from across the Central Highlands attended the annual Mayoral Student Leader Summit last Friday in Springsure.
The summit gives student leaders from primary schools and high schools the opportunity to network with each other and meet and greet the mayor, councillors, council staff and community reference group representatives.
Student leaders represented their schools and shared their thoughts on leadership and community projects. Guest speaker Shane Webcke inspired students by sharing his journey from a small town boy to football star.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the forum is a unique opportunity for schools across the region to sit in the same room and exchange experiences and opinions.
‘We’re a young community in the Central Highlands and with that comes energy and responsibility,’ he said.
‘At the summit, young people expressed their aspirations for the places they live in as well as community projects that they participate in.
‘The ideas have been well thought through, were delivered confidently and show the level of engagement that school groups have within their respective communities.
‘The summit also re-enforces council’s commitment to our youth strategy and our support for young people in the region.’
