Metal in March

Metal in March brings workshops, competitions and events to celebrate metal art around the region

Wire and metal art enthusiasts are in for a shiny new take on metal in March festivities this year.

Taking place throughout the month of March is a variety of metal-related workshops, activities and events across the region, including a competition, artist talks and live jazz in the park.

The flagship event, ‘Reuse, Recycle, RE-INVENT Metal Competition’ will facilitate a metal art competition for local artists, community groups and schools.

A collaboration between council’s arts & culture and resource recovery teams, this event will advocate sustainable art practices using metal while providing a public art display that strengthens the region’s art culture.

  • Reuse, Recycle, RE-INVENT Metal Art Competition

    The Central Highlands Metal in March Festival promotes the diversity of the Central Highlands’ thriving arts and culture sector by providing the local community with the opportunity to develop skills in different art forms.

    Reuse, Recycle, RE-INVENT is a new initiative in 2024, between council’s Arts & Culture and Resource Recovery teams to promote responsible waste management and repurposing materials that would otherwise be placed in landfill.

    Community are encouraged to Reuse, Recycle, RE-INVENT their waste material in creative ways to create artistic objects with metal as the main theme. Individuals, community groups and youth are invited to enter.

    Artists will bring their artworks for display and judging at Morton Park on Saturday 23 March 2024, open to the public from 9.00am to 12.00pm.

    All artworks entered are eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Voting will take place on the Have Your Say Central Highlands platform and will be open from 23 – 31 March 2024. The winner will be announced on Friday 5 April 2024 via the CHRC Facebook page.

    Artworks can be registered prior to the 23 March event. Please email your completed registration forms to chgalleries@chrc.qld.gov.au or in person at 65 Egerton St, Emerald, attention Central Highlands Galleries.

    Registrations will also be accepted on 23 March 2024 between 7.30am – 8.30am at Morton Park, prior to the public display. Artists/groups are responsible for the presentation of their artworks, delivery and collection of their artworks and safety of the public while their artworks are on display. Artists are required to stay with their artworks for the duration of the display.
